WHISTLE STOP TINNITUS was a self help group based in Essex. First started on 16th March 1980 by John and Jean Brown, after they attended the RNID launch of Tinnitus awareness.

In its time over 1000 people made contact with WHISTLE STOP.

Unfortunately due to a lack of offers to replace key positions within the committee, the group was disbanded at its 28th AGM on Friday 28th March 2008

Message from the President

Hi there dear friends, because that is what you have become over the years. I am writing this with a great sense of achievement, for the 28 years of “Whistle Stop”, and all the people that we have met and helped through our meetings, the newsletter, and help line.

But on Friday 28th March 2008, at our 28th A G M with just 17 people, it was sadly disbanded. Peter stepped down as Treasurer, and Editor of our newsletter. Nobody came forward to fill these positions, not only that, but Pat and I have been unable to find even 2 speakers for the June and September meetings, despite being given generous donations towards keeping the group going. So at this point we thank those members for their generosity and support. One of our biggest achievements, I am so proud of, is that over the 28 years we have raised and sent off over £15,000 for research, for a small group of our size that is a fantastic amount.

We had to agree, that with the age of computers and all the web site information, for tinnitus, we have arrived at a natural end. “Full circle” so to speak. It was a very sad moment. (Remembering how my late husband John and I started “Whistle Stop” March 1980, when there was a packed hall, between 80 to 100 people, so excited to meet other sufferers. Cliff came up with the name “Whistle Stop” with cheers from the floor. Robin, became chairman. Karen, secretary/editor. I was treasurer, along with John and others on our first committee) all this came flooding back.

My thanks goes to everyone who has helped "Whistle Stop" in its 28 years. For me, it has been a pleasure and a privilege to have been a President of Whistle Stop for so many wonderful years God Bless each one of you Jean
